Printing Tips

Printing problems:
Are you in the midst of a printing dilemma? You’ve come to the right place, yessiree bob. Around here, we love a challenge. So, do tell us… Does your brochure need more pages for what you want to do? No clue what size to print your piece or which paper meets your budget? (Take a deep breath.) We’ll take that problem off your hands and solve it. A little look-see at our capabilities will tell you why… And you can always contact a sales rep right away. We’re here for you. In the meantime, here are a few handy tips to make the most out of your printing project and budget.

Sheet size:
Sheet sizes and press sizes vary. We’ll be putting your piece on the best sheet size to get the most out of it. But sometimes, there is leftover room. Ask us about the sheet size, and remaining space, and you’ll know if you can squeeze in something like business cards, postcards or bookmarks.

Preferred file types:

  • Vector artwork should be Freehand or Illustrator “.eps” files
  • Photoshop should be “.tif” or “.eps” files
  • Send the layered Photoshop files so we have them just in case
  • Please no files in CorelDRAW
  • Page layout should be in QuarkXPress, Pagemaker or InDesign
  • Files created in Publisher and Word may take more time to output

Images:

  • 4-color: All color work (photos or artwork) must be CMYK (not RGB)
  • Spot colors: If using spot colors, all colors must be named the same whether they are in your layout file or coming in within placed artwork

What to send us:

  • Include all fonts in your document, including all those imbedded in art files
  • Include all images and art in the file
  • The page layout
  • Any specific instructions
  • If you send a PDF format, please embed and subset all fonts at 100%. Add bleed, and create the file with high-resolution graphics (300 dpi photos, 1200 dpi line art).
  • We support both Mac and PC platforms

Media accepted:
Floppy, CD, zip, jaz and DVD. Files under 10MB can be accepted by email If emailing, please inform your Customer Services Rep( CSR) that the file is being sent. Please stuff or zip all emailed files, especially fonts.

We prefer not to use:
Word Perfect or Power Point layout files. “.jpg” or “.gif” files from websites — the resolution is not high enough RGB images

Layout Tips:
Embed artwork and images as close to the size and resolution as they will be when printed. Build your document to 100% printed size unless otherwise specified. If the images bleed, please add at least 1/4” bleed to your document.
